Book #2 Live 14 June 2022

This story begins with the Soviet 64th Combined Arms Infantry Army directly after the battle for Stalingrad and follows it to the Voronezh Front where it was deployed in March 1943. Ultimately the 64th Army was granted Guards Status on 16 April 1943 for its heroic actions during the battle for Stalingrad, thus becoming the 7th Guards Army. This book is a sequel to Falk’s first book, The 64th Army at Stalingrad 1942-43 and continues its true story with a day-by-day account, at an operational level, to the end of World War II.

Within The 7th Guards Army from Kursk to Prague 1943-1945, the reader can follow a historically important army from just after the battle for Stalingrad to the great battle of Kursk and then on to the battle for Kharkov. After the 7th Guards Army crossed the mighty Dnepr River and helped capture Kirovograd, the narrative continues with the battle for Targu-Frumos in Romania and the epic feat of crossing the Carpathian Mountains. The 7th Guards Army then moves into Hungary, beginning the siege of Budapest along with a number of intense battles in the Hron River area. Following these battles, the 7th Guards Army advances into southern Czechoslovakia, arriving just south of Prague at the end of the war.

The aim of the book is to advance the study of the Soviet Red Army during World War II by detailing the operations of a single Combined Arms Infantry Army, including combat actions, logistics, command and control issues, Stavka orders, medical coverage, and the overall daily experience of a typical Soviet soldier. By making extensive use of newly released historical documents from the Russian Ministry of Defense’s TsAMO Archive and from German sources, this work provides a refreshing other-side-of-the-hill point of view. This approach complements existing research and publications, thus more fully completing the historical narrative. Additionally, the author provides 77 custom maps, 44 tables, and 56 historical photos, some never before published, which adds to the unique look and feel of the book.

The Second Edition of my first book, The 64th Army at Stalingrad, is also live on Amazon.com, Paperback Version only.

After a complete re-edit, the second edition of my book was released in May 2019. The slightly expanded second edition covers the Soviet 64th Combined Arms Infantry Army before, during, and after the Battle for Stalingrad, from 1942 to 1943. This is a day-by-day account of the battles of the 64th Army at an operational level.

This true story of the 64th Army is the first extensive English Language account of a Russian/Soviet army during World War II. Other English Language publications might touch upon actions of individual Russian armies and events, but none, as far as I know, cover a single army in depth, let alone a detailed study during a 15-month period. The significance of this approach allows the reader to follow a historically important army from its formation, commitment to battle, and struggle to the end of the battle for Stalingrad.

Most English Language books covering Stalingrad tell the story mainly from the German point of view. By making extensive use of newly released historical documents from the Russian Ministry of Defense’s TsAMO archive, my work provides a refreshing other-side-of-the-hill point of view. This approach complements existing research and publications, thus more fully completing the historical narrative. Additionally, 289 pages, 32 original maps and 2 figures clearly illustrate the ebb and flow of this great battle. Also, an assortment of 21 photos, some never before published, only adds to the unique look and feel of this book. You can order my book from Amazon.com.

received my copy from Amazon just today; looked it over, and looks to be an instructive read. Lot of material in your extensive bibliography that’s going to be useful too.
